How Many Jars for Curing Weed? Jar Count Guide
Use one quart Mason jar per ounce of dried weed, filled about 75 percent full. See jar counts by harvest size, plus prep and burping steps.
Buy food-grade glass jars with airtight lids. The jar must hold cured flower at 58% to 62% relative humidity. A Mason jar with a two-piece metal lid works. A jar with a cork, wood, or friction lid does not.
Start with the lid. The lid controls the cure. A metal lid with a plastisol liner or a rubber gasket seals against glass. Test the seal before you fill the jar. Put 1 inch of water in the jar, close the lid, invert the jar, and wait 1 minute. Water on the rim means a bad seal.
Skip sellers that list curing jar with no lid material. Skip jars with printed volume marks inside the neck. Flower catches on the marks.
Fill the jar to 75% of capacity. Leave 25% headspace for air. Use these sizes:
A 16 oz wide-mouth Mason jar holds 21 g to 28 g with headspace. A narrow-mouth jar slows loading and raises stem breakage.
Soda-lime glass is standard for Mason jars. Borosilicate glass costs 3 to 5 times more and resists thermal shock. Amber glass blocks most light below 500 nm. Clear glass lets light degrade cannabinoids. Store jars in a dark cabinet either way.
Two-piece lids: metal band plus flat lid with plastisol liner. One-piece lids: metal or plastic with a gasket. Clamp lids: glass lid plus rubber gasket plus metal clamp. Replace flat lids when the liner holds odor. Replace gaskets when they harden.
16 oz clear Mason jar: $2 to $6. 16 oz amber jar: $6 to $12. Case of 12 clear jars: $18 to $35. Case of 12 amber jars: $60 to $110. Humidity packs add $1 to $2 per pack.
Fill jars to 75%. Add a 58% or 62% humidity pack. Close the lid. Keep jars at 60°F to 70°F in the dark. Open lids for 5 minutes each day in week 1. Open lids for 5 minutes every 3 days in week 2. Stop burping when humidity holds at 58% to 62% for 24 hours.
