Hold the dry room at 58-62% relative humidity with the air at 60-70°F (15-21°C). Keep the room dark, move air with a gentle fan, and plan on 10-14 days. Below 58% RH, buds dry too fast and lose smell. Above 62% RH, mold risk climbs. Read the range at canopy height with a calibrated hygrometer, not at the wall.

Cannabis Dry and Cure Humidity Chart: Target RH by Stage

Why 58-62% RH

This range slows water loss while keeping the surface of the bud dry enough to resist mold. Slow drying gives chlorophyll time to break down and protects terpenes. A room at 58-62% RH and 60-70°F is a working target for small harvests. Large rooms need more sensors and more airflow control, but the range stays the same.

Equipment to set first

How to set the room

  1. Calibrate the hygrometer with a salt test or a reference meter.
  2. Place sensors at canopy height in two spots, away from doors and walls.
  3. Set the room temperature to 60-70°F.
  4. Set the dehumidifier to hold 60% RH.
  5. Set the humidifier to hold 58% RH.
  6. Point the fan at a wall or ceiling, not at the buds.
  7. Seal light gaps and block windows.
  8. Load buds with space between them and no pileups.
  9. Record the first RH and temperature reading.

Daily checks

  1. Read RH and temperature at canopy height at the same time each day.
  2. Squeeze a test bud to check surface dryness, then return it.
  3. Refill the humidifier before it runs dry.
  4. Empty or check the dehumidifier drain.
  5. Adjust fan speed if buds move or leaves flutter.
  6. Log the readings and note any drift.

Troubleshooting drift

RH drops below 58%

Lower fan speed, close the door, and raise the humidifier output in small steps. Do not mist the buds. If the room is above 70°F, cool it first, then adjust humidity.

RH climbs above 62%

Raise dehumidifier output, add a second sensor, and open the room for short air exchanges. Check for packed buds and wet trim. If RH stays above 65%, spread the buds into a thinner layer.
