Why live resin has a narrow range
Live resin is made from fresh frozen cannabis, so the plant never dries. Terpene content runs higher than in cured resin, often 3% to 8% by weight. Terpenes boil between 246°F and 388°F. THC vaporizes at about 315°F and CBD at 320°F to 356°F. Heat past 600°F and those compounds break down into a harsh, flat vapor.

- 450°F to 550°F: Target range for live resin. Flavor holds, vapor density is decent.
- 550°F to 700°F: Larger clouds, muted terpenes, darker residue.

How to check the temp
An infrared thermometer reads the banger surface, not the air inside the bucket. Surface readings land 50°F to 100°F above the vapor temp. Contact probes and e-nail coils read closer to the dab surface. A 25mm quartz banger heated 30 to 45 seconds and rested 45 to 60 seconds lands near 500°F. Times shift with quartz thickness and torch output, so test your own setup.
Cold start method
- Drop the live resin into a room temp banger.
- Heat the bottom until the oil melts and bubbles, about 5 to 10 seconds.
- Cap and draw.
- Reheat in 2 second bursts if vapor stops.
Cold starts stay under 550°F because the oil heats with the quartz. Flavor stays intact.
Signs the temp is off
- Too hot: harsh hit, burnt taste, dark residue, chazzed quartz.
- Too cool: puddle left in the banger, thin vapor, weak effect.
