What marijuana cigar wraps are
A marijuana cigar wrap is a sheet of material you use to roll ground cannabis into a cigar-shaped smoke. The material can be tobacco leaf, homogenized tobacco paper, or a hemp and cellulose substitute. The wrap is the product. It holds no cannabis, and most of what sits on a smoke shop shelf contains no THC.
People say blunt wrap, cigarillo, or blunt to mean roughly the same thing, though the words started with tobacco. A Backwood is a cigar. A Swisher is a cigar. Gut it, refill it with flower, and now it's a blunt.

Tobacco leaf vs. hemp wrap vs. homogenized paper
- Tobacco leaf. Whole-leaf cigars hold a lot of flower, burn slow, and deliver nicotine. The taste is heavy and earthy, and it tends to bury lighter terp profiles.
- Homogenized tobacco paper. The reconstituted sheet inside a cigarillo. It's thinner, easier to split and roll, and still brings nicotine along for the ride.
- Hemp wraps. Made from hemp fiber, or hemp blended with cellulose. No nicotine. They burn faster than tobacco leaf and will canoe if the flower isn't ground evenly.
- Botanical wraps. Rose petal, palm leaf, and similar. Mostly novelty. Some burn hot, some taste like a campfire, and a few are genuinely pleasant.
What I check before buying
- Ingredient list. A hemp wrap should say hemp. If the label mentions natural tobacco flavoring, it's tobacco.
- Nicotine content. Tobacco wraps almost always have it, even when the pack doesn't advertise it.
- Moisture. A dry wrap cracks when you bend it. A soggy one tears at the seam.
- Flavor. Grape and blueberry own the shelf. Vanilla and unflavored interfere less with the weed.
- Size. A single wide fits about 0.5 to 1 gram. A whole-leaf cigar takes 2 grams or more.
How to roll one that burns even
- Grind medium, not to powder. Dust packs tight, blocks airflow, and the blunt runs.
- Split the wrap lengthwise with your fingers or a blade if it's a whole cigar. Dump the tobacco.
- Warm the wrap by passing it over a flame for a second or breathing on it. It rolls without cracking.
- Spread the flower in an even line, a little fatter in the middle.
- Roll with your thumbs, tuck the near edge, then seal with a slow lick along the seam.
- Let it rest a minute so the seal sets. A quick pass over a flame dries it if you're in a hurry.
Health and legal notes
A tobacco wrap means you're inhaling tobacco smoke and nicotine along with cannabis smoke. That's a real difference from a paper joint, not a footnote. Cannabis smoke on its own carries many of the same irritants as tobacco smoke, and heavy blunt smoking is tied to cough, wheeze, and bronchitis symptoms.
Legally, wraps are a tobacco or hemp product, sold to adults 21 and over under federal tobacco rules. Cannabis is a separate matter. It's legal for adults in many states and still illegal federally, so where you can buy, carry, or light a filled blunt depends on your state and often your city. A smoke shop's willingness to sell you a wrap says nothing about the weed inside it.
Storage
Wraps dry out fast once the pack is open. A ziplock with a humidity pack keeps them pliable for weeks. Skip the fridge, since condensation ruins them.
