Three mechanics separate them. First, speed: inhaled nicotine hits the brain in seconds, while edible THC takes 30 to 90 minutes, which weakens the reward loop. Second, physical withdrawal: nicotine withdrawal peaks in 3 days and lingers for weeks with irritability, cravings, and sleep disruption. Cannabis withdrawal is real but milder for most users, showing up as low appetite, restlessness, and vivid dreams that fade within 1 to 2 weeks. Third, withdrawal severity scales with dose, so a person smoking a gram of 25 percent THC flower each day sits in a different risk band than someone taking a 5 mg edible twice a week.
Pick first: if lower dependence risk is the priority, choose high-CBD, low-THC flower and keep sessions under 3 days per week.
