Oral CBD has an absolute bioavailability near 6% in the fasted state, per the Epidiolex label. A high-fat meal raises absorption. Sublingual oil sits under the tongue for 60 to 90 seconds before you swallow. Peak blood levels after oral dosing arrive in 1 to 3 hours. The label lists a terminal half-life of 56 to 61 hours, so CBD builds up with repeated daily doses.
Label accuracy
A 2017 JAMA study tested 84 CBD products bought online. 69% did not match the label. 26% held less CBD than stated. 43% held more. One product had no CBD at all. Ask for a third-party lab report with a batch number before you set a dose.
Side effects and interactions
CBD blocks the CYP3A4 and CYP2C19 enzymes. That raises blood levels of some drugs, including clobazam, warfarin, and tacrolimus. The FDA warns about liver injury, sleepiness, and stomach upset.
