Hemp CBD Oil Price: What Cost Per Milligram Really Tells You
A guide to hemp CBD oil price: how to compute cost per milligram, which label details raise or lower it, and traps that make a cheap bottle expensive.
Full spectrum hemp CBD oil is an extract made from the whole hemp plant, not one isolated molecule. It keeps the cannabinoids that come out in the wash (CBD, CBG, CBC, CBN in smaller amounts), plus terpenes, flavonoids, and trace THC. Under US law, hemp has to test at or below 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis, so a full spectrum hemp product sits at or under that line.
That last part matters if you're shopping a THC menu. Full spectrum CBD oil is not a THC edible. It's the CBD side of the shelf.
Three labels get used as if they mean the same thing. They don't.
People reach for full spectrum because of the entourage effect, the idea that plant compounds work better together than alone. Fair warning: most of that evidence comes from lab and animal work. Human trials putting full spectrum and isolate head to head are thin.
Not at normal doses. At a 25 mg serving the THC is there in milligrams you can count on one hand. Two honest caveats, though. First, if you take large amounts of full spectrum oil, that trace THC accumulates and some people feel it. Second, full spectrum can trip a urine screen even when you feel nothing at all. If you get tested, isolate or broad spectrum with a non-detect COA is the safer lane.
Marketing copy on CBD bottles is loose. The numbers are where the truth lives.
There's no official daily intake for CBD. The FDA hasn't set one. A common approach is to start at 10 to 25 mg once a day, hold that for a week, then adjust by 5 to 10 mg at a time. Take it with a little fat, since cannabinoids are fat soluble. Keep notes, because memory is a bad lab partner. Give it two to three weeks before you decide it does nothing.
Side effects worth knowing: drowsiness, dry mouth, loose stools, and shifts in liver enzymes. CBD also ties up some of the liver enzymes that process other drugs, including blood thinners and seizure medications. If you take prescriptions, ask your pharmacist before you start.
Cool, dark, capped tight. Heat and light break cannabinoids down over time. Most bottles hold potency for a year or two past the fill date if you keep them out of a hot car.
CBD and THC share a receptor system and some of the same liver pathways. Some people use CBD to soften the edge of a strong THC high. Others find it muddies the effect. Try them separately before you combine. And read a THC label as carefully as a CBD one, since delta-8, delta-9 and THCA products all carry different potency and different legal status depending on your state.
