Buy the 510-thread cart battery first. It fits most cartridges sold in US dispensaries. A pod battery fits one brand. That limit is the tradeoff.
The two devices
A 510 battery uses a threaded connector. The thread measures 7 mm across with a 0.5 mm pitch. Joyetech set that standard in 2007. Cart makers kept it. Cartridge coil resistance runs about 1.0 ohm to 1.8 ohms. Output runs 2.0 V to 4.8 V on adjustable models.

- Distillate: 3.0 V to 3.8 V.
- Above 4.0 V the coil runs hot. Taste changes. Oil darkens in the tank.
Capacity and dose
Battery mAh sets how many sessions you get per charge. Voltage sets the dose per puff. A 1,000 mAh battery lasts longer between charges. It does not change the oil or the coil.
Safety notes
In 2019 the CDC linked an EVALI outbreak to vitamin E acetate in THC cartridges from informal sellers. Regulated dispensary carts do not use that additive. Buy carts from licensed shops. Check the thread for cross-threading before you tighten a cart. Do not overtighten. Clean the contact pin with a dry swab when draw gets tight.
