Glassy Rosin
Glassy rosin looks like amber glass. It holds a shape, snaps when bent, and passes light through the middle. Press numbers: 180F to 220F (82C to 104C), 60 to 120 seconds. The puck cools on a cold plate right after the press.
Hash rosin goes glassy more often than flower rosin. Hash holds less plant wax and more THCA by weight. A glassy jar can test 70% to 90% THCA.

Oily Rosin
Oily rosin, also called sap or grease, flows on the tool. It strings out when pulled. Press numbers: 140F to 175F (60C to 79C), 30 to 90 seconds, lower plate pressure.
Terpene content above 5% pushes rosin toward oily. Fresh frozen material and low press heat both protect terpenes. The result is a wet, sticky texture that spreads on its own.
Oily rosin is hard to dose on a scale. It sticks to parchment and to fingers. Storage at 60F to 70F (15C to 21C) holds the texture in place.
Other Rosin Textures
- Budder and batter: opaque, creamy, whipped or cured 24 to 72 hours at room temperature.
- Wax: thicker than budder, no flow, pressed at higher heat.
- Crumble: dry and chunky, high heat plus long press time.
- Jam and sauce: THCA crystals separate from terpene liquid. Needs a warm cure at 90F to 110F for days.
How to Aim for One Texture
- Pick the start. Hash presses toward glass. Flower presses toward oil.
- Set heat first. 200F and up gives glass. 165F and below gives a wet oil.
- Shorten the press. 30 to 60 seconds keeps terpenes. 90 to 180 seconds drives toward wax and crumble.
- Cool fast for glass. Cool slow for oil.
- Cure in a sealed glass jar, in the dark, at 60F to 70F.
Storage and Change Over Time
Rosin changes after the press. A glassy batch can budder in 3 to 14 days. Temperature swings speed that up. Terpenes evaporate at room heat over weeks. A sealed jar in a dark drawer slows both.
