Cannabis dry sift is a solventless concentrate made by working dried cannabis over fine mesh screens so the resin-rich trichome heads separate from the plant material. No water, ice, heat, or chemical solvent is involved, only mechanical agitation. The result is a soft, powdery resin that ranges from green cooking-grade kief to near-pure resin that melts on contact with a hot nail.
How cannabis dry sift is made
Dry sift depends on one physical fact: trichome heads are brittle and detach from leaf and stem tissue when the material is rubbed against a screen of the right size. Everything in the process is about encouraging that separation and limiting how much plant matter comes along with it.
- Start with dry, cured flower or trim. Material that is too moist smears instead of crumbling, and material that is bone dry turns to dust and drags chlorophyll into the sift.
- Chill the material. Cold makes resin heads more brittle, so many producers freeze the flower or trim for a short period before sifting.

Storing dry sift
