Federal and state rules

Cannabis sits in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. Federal law bans cultivation. States set separate rules. Some states allow home grow with a plant count and a locked space. Some allow medical grow with a card. Check your state agriculture department and your state health department before you plant. Hemp is treated as a separate crop: the 2018 Farm Bill sets the hemp delta-9 THC limit at 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.
