Buy Cannabis Online in the US: What to Check Before You Order
A practical guide to buying cannabis and THC products online in the US: licensing, lab tests, payment methods, delivery rules, and the mistakes to avoid.
The top pick for most US shoppers is Eaze, a licensed cannabis delivery platform in California, because it partners with state-licensed dispensaries, publishes third-party lab results, and offers same-day delivery in many metro areas. The criteria for this comparison are state licensing, lab testing transparency, product variety, delivery and pickup options, payment methods, and customer support. Online cannabis sales are legal only where state law allows, so availability depends on your location.
Buy Cannabis Online in the US: What to Check Before You Order
Eaze: Top Pick for Delivery
Eaze acts as a delivery marketplace that connects consumers with licensed dispensaries in California. It is not a nationwide service, and it does not operate in states where recreational delivery is prohibited.
- Pros: works with licensed California dispensaries; menu includes major brands; lab results often available; delivery windows in select cities; age verification at checkout.
- Cons: limited to California and select markets; delivery fees and minimums vary by dispensary; product availability changes often; no nationwide access.
Use case: best for California residents who want legal delivery from a vetted network and prefer to order from home.

Dutchie-Powered Dispensaries: Best for Local Pickup
Dutchie is an e-commerce platform used by many licensed dispensaries across the US. It is not a dispensary itself, but it powers online ordering for local shops.

- Pros: wide network of dispensaries; supports both pickup and delivery; real-time inventory; often shows local deals; helps you compare menus.
- Cons: experience varies by dispensary; no central lab testing standard; you must verify each dispensary's license and lab results; some shops only serve medical patients.
Use case: best for shoppers who want to support local dispensaries, compare prices, and choose pickup or delivery based on their zip code.
Weedmaps and Leafly: Best for Research and Discovery
Weedmaps and Leafly are listing platforms, not dispensaries. They provide directories, reviews, and strain information, but you complete the purchase on a dispensary's own site.
- Pros: extensive dispensary and delivery listings; user reviews; strain and product details; helpful for finding new brands.
- Cons: listings may be outdated; you still need to verify the dispensary's license; no direct lab verification; purchase happens off-platform.
Use case: best for research before you buy, especially if you are new to a city or want to compare multiple dispensaries.
Dispensary-Direct Online Menus: Best for Brand Loyalty
Many multi-state operators and local dispensaries offer their own online ordering. Examples include Curaleaf and Trulieve, which operate in multiple states where legal.
- Pros: direct relationship with the brand; loyalty programs; consistent product lines; sometimes exclusive drops.
- Cons: limited to states where they operate; menu may be smaller than a marketplace; some products require a medical card; delivery may not be available.
Use case: best for shoppers who already know which brand or product they want and prefer to order directly.
What to Verify Before Buying Online
- State license: confirm the dispensary or delivery service is licensed by your state cannabis agency.
- Lab testing: look for a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for each product, especially for potency and contaminants.
- Delivery rules: check if delivery is legal in your city, the delivery radius, fees, and minimum order.
- Payment: most online cannabis dispensaries accept cash or debit at delivery. Credit cards are often not accepted.
- Age verification: you must be 21+ for recreational or a valid medical patient.
- Return policy: cannabis sales are usually final, so inspect your order at delivery.
Final Recommendation
Start with a licensed delivery platform like Eaze if you are in California. For other states, use Dutchie to find a local dispensary with online ordering, and use Weedmaps or Leafly to research products. Always check the license and lab results before you buy. Online cannabis is convenient, but legal access depends on your state, and product quality varies by source.
